There's a bed bug epidemic of sorts in big cities across Canada. Records and statistics are not kept but exterminators and public health offices say in the last seven years, they've seen a surge in complaints about bed bugs.
How did they get there? Travelling, sleeping in hotels and motels. Are you a frequent traveller? Do you check your suitcases, bodies and clothes when you get home?
Nasty little blood sucking bugs that leave bite marks on your body. Indeed, that's the signature mark of bed bugs, tiny critters that survive by sucking human blood while their hosts sleep.

Yikes, never thought about them, we stay in motels when heading south, and coming home. _________________ see our backup forum here and register

When I was 26, I stayed in a Pens-i-on in Athens....I remember just before I set my backpack on to the cot, the propriator came in and sprayed the mattress with a Lysol type substance..... turned the mattress over, and sprayed again. I was dumbfounded....but still stayed there at $1.50/night....
I had the book called Travel Europe on $5.00/day....it was true you can spread your money out to last a long time, now the hostels..are another story.... the early bird gets the worm...or sleep in and pick up a roll and cheese from the street.
Saying that, my standards are MUCH higher and would sooner pay more for a clean place. _________________ We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are.

My god we are planning a trip for December to get away for the holidays. We need a break from all this and we deserve it. This never crossed our minds. My god wait til I tell the wife this one. We have done a lot of traveling but guess we have been the fortunate ones. |

Hi Wildbill,
This incident was in 1977, I'm hope that you wouldn't encounter this now.
After reading above, maybe we should be carrying a can of Lysol with us. Enjoy your holidays

That would be awful to bring something like that home in a suitcase. I can't imagine how upset the wife would be about that and me as well of course. |

What makes you say that?? The year 2005 is quoted in the article!
I've slept in some dodgy places all over, and the worst I ever encountered were roaches in a pension in Morocco. _________________ A smile is the closest distance between two people. |
