With all of Florida under a freeze warning, citrus and other farmers prepared Wednesday for possibly damaging temperatures into the teens and 20s.

"Growers are definitely concerned anytime the temperature is forecast to dip near 30 degrees," said Andrew Meadows, spokesman for the grower advocacy group Florida Citrus Mutual. "We will have a lot of growers across the state pulling all nighters and keeping a close watch on their groves and the temperature. We are cautiously optimistic the industry can weather this cold snap without significant damage."

All of Florida, from Miami to the Panhandle, was under a freeze warning Wednesday, and record lows in the teens and 20s were expected in some areas. At potential risk is a broad variety of plants and produce, from broccoli and cabbage in north Florida to strawberries, tomatoes, corn and citrus toward the south.

Higher prices ahead

Tell me about it Smile- we ran out of propane this morning, had to run out and switch over to the other bottle., brrrr I'm going to be wearing my winter coat and hat when I take the pooch for his walk. No beach days for a bit I guess, just have to get some more retail therapy instead. Smile-

I wanted hubby to put the bedroom slide in last night in order to cover the side windows as they leak something awful. Normally who cares, you need some air, but he wouldn't...all you have to do is push a button. Maybe he was afraid it would freeze shut or something.

I didn't bother hooking up the electric blanket but will tonight and put a pillow over the window... the furnace sucks up a lot of propane..

They spray the strawberries and flowers with a foam which insulates the plants, not sure how low it got overnight, but its 35 F. right now.
