How about a thread for useful tips. Doesn't have to be cooking only. can be anything household.
I am going to give one that happened to me yesterday. Burnt stuff in a stainless pot.
Got lost in cyberspace yesterday and forgot I was cooking. So I burnt my rice. What a mess, what a smell. Knocked everything over to get there on time. Tooooo Late.
So to clean my pot, I emptied it and added some hot water and some granular dishwasher powder and left it overnight. Walla!! easy as pie,( if you think pie is easy). _________________ “Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.”

That is a very good tip Michael as I'm sure we all start something else while we are cooking and end up occasionally with a burnt pot.
I find soda and water is also good for cleaning pots and pans if they aren't too badly scorched. |

Onions:
Wrap onions individually in foil to keep them from becoming soft or sprouting. |

Thanks Oceanna. I have that problem with onions.
Lime and Other Mineral Deposits Removal
Hard water can cause lime and other minerals to build up on your bathroom fixtures and make bathroom cleaning a nightmare. The easiest way to remove lime or other mineral buildup from your bathroom is by using an acidic cleaner. You can also try common household staples such as white vinegar, lemon juice, or a cleaner containing oxcalic acid, which is best for rusty stains. _________________ “Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.”

To clear a clogged drain, bail out as much water as possible, pour in 1 cup baking soda and wash down with 1 cup white vinegar.
Clears and sterilizes. You can use smaller quantities on a regular basis to keep drains smelling fresh. |

To unclog showerhead, put some vinegar in a ziplock bag (enough to immerse the entire area with the holes), slip the bag over the showerhead and hold in place with an elastic band. Leave overnight and remove. _________________ “Wisdom is knowing what to do next, skill is knowing how to do it, and virtue is doing it.”

| I am too lazy to do that. I spray it with a solution of vinegar and water. |
