The Brazilian government has confirmed that a man who died in hospital in the capital, Brasilia, was suffering from yellow fever. There has also been cases of dengue fever and there were 98 deaths in the first seven months of 2007. There is no cure for dengue fever. Both are spread by mosquitoes .

There is no vaccination for dengue and health officials have to rely instead on encouraging the public to avoid a build-up of pools of water in outside areas, which encourages mosquitoes to breed.
