Protein source - Whole soybeans are an excellent source of protein and dietary fibre. Soy protein is the only vegetable with a complete protein. Soy protein has recently attracted a lot of attention because of its ability to lower LDL (bad cholesterol) levels. Results from research have prompted health professionals to request the government to officially give a stamp of approval for soy's cholesterol-lowering effects. The Food and Drug Administration approved the cholesterol-lowering health claim for soy, indicating that daily consumption of 25 grams of soy protein (6.5 grams of soy protein per serving) may lower LDL cholesterol.

Natto video showing eating for breakfast and other uses. Possibly a nutritional replacement for some of the junk food products.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natto Here is a succinct description of Natto.
Comparing Natto to cheese is probably stretching the definition a bit. It is just another way of eating soy beans, the rural people in Japan have been using Natto for centuries, as basically a replacement for meat. In Japan it is sold in small containers, readily available in cafaterias and supermarkets.

Probiotics affect metabolism, says new study. Possibly applicable to Natto. |

I recently made my second batch of Nattto. It is quite different from most food. I eat a litle each day just to see if it has any apparent beneficial effects.
My daughter won't touch Natto with a ten foot pole. Once I was travelling with her when she was about 11 and I bought some lobster along the road in NB, and was eating it at a roadside picnic table. She wouldn't eat it, and told me that she imagined I was breaking the legs off a baby when removing the claws. So much for introducing her to strange food.
My son-in-law, who is Japanese and lives in Japan eats a bit with rice every day fro breakfast, and he is a blazing ball of activity. Whether this contributes or not, I don't know. But for me it is just an experiment, and is simply another way to eat soy beans, as a replacement for meat.
I tend to eat all food, and like to experiment. |
