Why sprout your own lentils, grains or seeds? Because it's really, really good for you.
Sprouting is the process of taking seeds (which can be in the form of seeds, nuts, unrefined grains or legumes) and starting them on the active process in which they eventually become plants. It's very good for you and it's easy.
It's speculated that the Chinese were the first to discover the wonders of sprouting and that their sailors would sprout and consume seeds throughout their voyages to prevent scurvy.
Sprouting seeds actually produces a large quantity of vitamin C (more by weight than an orange). Sprouting also increases the B vitamins present as well as carotenes (precursor to vitamin A, beta carotene, for example). Sprouting is a great way to up the nutrient level of any seeds, grains, nuts or legumes you were going to eat anyway. Making a chili? Why not sprout the kidney beans before throwing them in, turning that chili into a superfood?
Do you include sprouts in your meal plans? What kinds do you like best? How about cabbage and radish sprouts? What is better than growing your own fresh veggies in a jar (a garden in a jar)?
Find out more on and how to sprout ,
