Getting a free account

One of the first things to do when you want to store pictures for using on a site is to get a free image hosting account. Go to photobucket :

http://photobucket.com/

and sign up for a free account. Record your user name and password and save the link in your favourites after you have signed in. There are lots of other sites, just do a search for "free image hosting sites".

Getting an image onto your computer

When you have an image/picture that you like (check for copyright). You could get into trouble for copying a picture that says you cannot.

1. Right click on the image and Save Picture as.... It will then take you to MY Pictures on your computer.

2. In the Save in: field make sure it is saying My Pictures

3. In the File Name field, the name of the item you are copying will appear dark or hi-lited. YOu can keep the name that appears there or delete and put the name you want to call it. You cannot give two images the same name.

4. Then click on Save.

You are now ready to copy another. Follow steps 1 to 4 for each image.

Uploading to Photobucket

You will be toggling between My Pictures and Photobucket.

Open your (free) Photobucket account.

1. Click on the link you saved to your Favourites or use the link above and Log in with the name and password you used to sign up for your free account. At this point you should be at Current or My Album.

2. When it opens, you will see a box with Upload Images & Videos above it. Left click on Browse. This will take you back to your computer to My Pictures. Find the images that you want to upload to Photobucket and left click on it, it is now hi-lited.

3. Click on Open. The name you saved it as will appear in the field to the left of Browse in Photobucket.

4. Just under that field where the name appears, click on Uploading Options. Here you can select the option for resizing your image. If you want to use the image as an avatar click in that eyeball to the left of Avatar, and so on.

5. Then click on Upload. It will tell you it is uploading and when it if finished it will tell you the image was successfully uploaded.

That's it, you are ready to do the next one. I don't use the multiple upload because it hangs when I try to do more than one.

From Photobucket to Forum

You will be toggling between the forum and Photobucket.

1. Open your Photobucket Album.

2. Find the image you want to take to the forum. Left click on it to hi-lite.

Under each image are three links: URL Link, HTML Tag, and IMG Code. The URL Link is the one you post in your Profile for your Avatar, I think. If that doesn't work, try the IMG Code.

3. For posting an image in the forum with your post or as a signature, left click on the IMG Code, copy the IMG Code link.

Now go back to where you want it to appear in your message and paste it there. You will right click to see choices and left click on your choice, which is paste. If you are finished typing your message, Preview and if satisfied, Submit. Now go look at your post.

thanks Michael for your instructional post re pictures.

I have just spent the last 1.5 hrs. and only managed to get to "loading from my IPhoto to Photobucket. It still says my album is empty even though I can see the picture .

I am calling 'uncle' I may try again another time, but for some reason, it is not so straitforward as I am reading your instructions.

All I wanted to do was post a nice picture of a frosty morning. By now the frost has melted. Crying or Very sad

Where are you seeing the picture? On your computer or in Photobucket? Do you know how to get them from your camera to your computer?

If they are on your computer already Follow the steps to upload to Photobucket. then the next set of instructions to upload here.

So first, you have to upload from your camera or another source to your computer (My Pictures Folder), then from your computer follow the steps to upload to Photobucket. Finally the instructions to upload from Photobucket into the Post you want to make here.

Don't give up, sometimes it takes more than one or two tries. Keep us informed of your progress and if you run into problems, just ask.

Great attitude. When I got my computer, I was a dummy. but I asked a lot of questions in forums, searched quite a bit, and tried different things. Once you get an understanding of how things work, it will be easier for you.

IT WORKED, IT WORKED, IT WORKED

After you select IMG in Photobucket, then go to the reply window (this window) and put your msg in, then right click and Paste....
It will only show a link with IMG at the beginning and IMG at the end of the code, LEAVE THE FORUM....when you go back in..... there is your photo. If photo is HUGE, you will have to go back to photobucket and resize, then rename.
hope that helps....never give up.... bounce
