What is it? It looks like a cross between a watering can and Aladdin's lamp to pour water through your nose. The neti pot, long a standby of yogic and Ayurvedic practitioners, is an unlikely health hero. The squat little ceramic pot used for nasal cleansing - the flooding of the nasal passages to clear out mucus congestion.
The word neti is Sanskrit for "nasal cleansing." In the traditions of Ayurveda, a natural medical system that originated in India thousands of years ago, jala neti is the cleansing of the nasal passages with salt water. This is where the neti pot comes in.
I wouldn't do it. I might just accidentally drown myself.

Do they work? Neti pots are in every drugstore window here. Apparently one puts a lot of salt or special salt (?) in the bowl beneath. Not that one's nose couldn't do with cleansing in this foul city air |

It might be easier to just stick your head into sea water & sniff some up your nose, then spit it out! This is basically what it does. You must have noticed that when you're sea swimming, your nose gets a good clean out.
Or alternately, dissolve sea salt in some warm water, and do the same. _________________ A smile is the closest distance between two people. |

Midlander, here in Toronto we only have a rather large freshwater Lake - which is partly responsbile for nasal congestion on account of the humidity it creates.
I do have a saline solution, and certainly sea salt in water would be cheaper than the neti pot, tho perhaps the neti pot is more elegantly designed for the nostrils.
Not that I am rushing to buy one at the price |

When you have a chronic sinus problem as my OH does then
you will try just about anything to help. He has tried the sea salt
but found it to be too harsh after a while. He has been using
special saline solutions but not with these neti pots. I don't see
what the advantage of using them would be when you can use
a spray bottle and be just as effective. Another way to part you
and your money? |
